UN Grants CIMAG Observer Accreditation Status

The United Nations Environmental Programme, (UNEP), has granted Centre for International Maritime Affairs Ghana, CIMAG, accreditation to be an observer of its programmes across board.

The international recognition follows a careful scrutiny of CIMAGS's programmes and operations, after the former received formal application.

The accreditation takes immediate effect and also covers allied organs of the UNEP. "Following careful assessment and consideration of the documents and information provided, I am pleased to inform you that CIMAG has been granted accreditation as an observer to the United Nations Environmental Programme and its governing bodies, United Nations Environmental Assembly and its subsidiary organs.

The commendation also mandates CIMAG to present reports of such programmes periodically "Your organization will forthwith receive invitations as an observer to all public meetings and sessions of the United Nations Environmental Assembly and its subsidiary organs. "Note that with your accreditation, you are required to file report of your activities quadrennially to ensure submitted at the secretariat of the Governing bodies" the statement emphazises.

CIMAG, a Ghana-based international maritime and environmental research think tank has over last few years proffered practical solutions to some environmental and maritime problems confronting the globe from its research expertise standpoint. Among such recommendations was the Restore Technology as a lasting solution to particularly salvage communities of the Eastern coast of West Africa countries from the ravaging sea erosion.

This has earned the internationally acclaimed blue economy advocacy group invitations to participate in related issues in and outside the African continent, latest being the UNEP accreditation.

CIMAG proses to be a prefered platform for maritime and environmental related issues with research touch, given the indispensable role of the blue economy in world trade and its impact on socio-economic development across the globe.
